let's talk about running

I'm not a runner. I don't love it. Actually I'm not a huge exercise fan in general. But I know it's necessary to be healthy and I love the results, so I do it. And I love how I feel after a workout. I guess maybe I like it more than I think I do....

But running....it just seems so....fit! And I feel so not fit. But I'm doing it anyway b/c it seems like a good thing to do lol. It's a pride thing. I want to be "one of those people". You know - the kind that when you ask what their weekend plans are they say "housework, soccer practice, laundry...oh and I'm running a marathon." Wait back that train up - a marathon you say! How impressive! I guess I want to be a runner. And apparently they only way to be one is to actually run. Who would have thought?

So I decided to find a 5K in November and begin working towards it. And then I saw the "turkey trot" and thought "what better day to run my tail off then on a day dedicated  to eating everything in sight" Well it's dedicated to thankfulness too of course - but I was more excited in that moment about earning my turkey dinner and maybe keeping a little more of it from going to my hips. So that was that. I asked my friend Melinda if she would run it with me and she agreed. And now we're runners (in training lol - we're currently walk/runners!)

So Monday was our first time out. We did ok. We walk/ran about a mile. Ran as much as we walked. It was nice to have someone with me - motivation, competition, etc. She's a little better than me - I got a stitch in my side rather early on :( But it's ok!

It was actually a lot of fun and though I was a little stiff today, my legs weren't near as angry as I thought they would be. They were more angry when I informed them that we must do yoga tonight. Yoga is hard stuff sometimes!

Tomorrow we plan to go out again and will be pushing ourselves to run a bit more and walk a bit less. We'll see how it goes. Maybe we will be 5K ready by Thanksgiving. We can always hope right?
